Chick’s Oyster Bar is located on the Lynnhaven River in Virginia Beach. We offer stunning views of the water and surrounding wildlife. The various different decks on our property provide us with ample space to host any event. Whether your event is a 20 person luncheon or a 200 person wedding party, Chick’s will be able to serve you.
How Much Food Do I Need?
Buffet Style Appetizers
Most of our catering items come in batches of 50 or 100 pieces. For stand alone appetizers that don’t precede a meal you should have at least 12-15 pieces per person. For example if you were planning for a 40 person party you will need at least 520 pieces. You may also want to add some “filler” items such as the Fruit and Cheese Board and Vegetable Platter.
We also offer a couple of different “food stations” for your event. These are a fun way for your guests to put together their food however they please. We offer a Taco Station, a BBQ station and an All American Station (with more to come). These stations are designed to serve about 30 guests.
For appetizers before a meal you should have at least 6-8 pieces per person. For example if you were planning for a 40 person party you will need at least 280 pieces.
Sit Down Event
For large parties (30 or more) we ask that you limit your menu choices so that we can serve you better. We would prefer that you limit the menu to five different choices.

We also offer dinner buffet options for those would are interested in a slightly more formal environment. The buffet is based on a per person charge. There are numerous entrée and side dishes to choose from. Contact us for more information.
Party Reservation Guarantee
In order to offer Chick’s facilities to our guests without charging a room fee, we must have a guaranteed number of guests. The client will be responsible for that number regardless of the final count unless the actual guest count is more. A deposit in the amount of half of the total of your minimum food and beverage charge will be taken on the day you place your catering order or the day your reservation is confirmed. For example, if you have selected the Marlin Club for your event and your minimum is $6,000.00, your deposit will be in the amount of $3,000.00. If you are reserving a space or tables rather than a whole room or section (smaller, non-catered parties of 25 or more) a deposit of $250.00 for the first 25 guests and $50.00 per every five guests after will be taken on the day your reservation is confirmed. The client must contact us with the menu of choice and event details at least 10 days prior to the reserved date. The space cannot be guaranteed unless a deposit is received. Your reservation holds your deck for a maximum of 3 hours. Additional time may be added if the party coordinator has advanced notice.
A guaranteed number of guests must be given to Chick’s 72 hours in advance of the function. If Chick’s has not been contacted with a guaranteed count, the last guest count given will be taken as the guaranteed. In the event that less than the guaranteed number of guests arrive for the event, Chick’s Oyster Bar charges a reservation fee of $15.00 per no-show party. For example, if the guaranteed number of guests is 50 and 40 guests show, Chick’s will charge $15.00 x 10 guests that did not show, totaling $150.00.
Chick’s Oyster Bar reserves the right to relocate parties in order to best accommodate all patrons.
A deposit will be taken the day you place your food order for parties of 30 or more. In the event that your party does not arrive, your deposit will be forfeit unless you give a 48 hour cancellation notice to the party coordinator. When your function takes place, you may apply your deposit to your bill. See above for Chick’s Oyster Bar’s guaranteed number of guests policy.
We offer many different options for you and your party for adult beverages:
- You could have all of your guests pay as they go. The waitress will ask for a credit card to start a tab and your guests would pay at the end of your event (Cash or credit card).
- You could have an open bar check. This would mean that all the alcohol would be on 1 tab for the duration of the event. The tab could be paid by 1 person or split evenly amongst a few different people. You could limit this to just beer and wine if you prefer.
- You could have a bar limit. This would be a capped dollar amount (ex $500) that you would be responsible for. The waitress will be able to tell you as you approach your capped dollar amount. This gives you the option to change your cap if you feel it is necessary. Otherwise your guests will be responsible for their own tabs. (See #1)
- Non alcoholic beverages are $2.49 per person. Non alcoholic beverage come with Free Refills.
Parking is limited here at Chick’s Oyster Bar. We ask that your guests carpool when possible, especially on holidays and weekends. There will be complimentary valet when you arrive for your event.
All food and beverages will be charged a food/liquor tax of 11.5% as well as a service charge of 20%. The minimum amount must be spent on food and beverages. The minimum does NOT include the taxes or service charge. The minimum can vary based on what room you would like, the time of year your party is, or what day of the week you would like your event to fall on. All food orders must be placed a minimum of 10 days in advance.
Decks & Spaces*
The OBX Deck
This deck has seven tables and is able to seat 35 people. It is semi- private but not closed off.
Food/Bev Minimum: Mon-Thurs $800.00 | Fri-Sun: $1000.00
The Big Deck
This deck is larger than OBX. Big Deck has 12 tables and a capacity of 55 people. This deck has more privacy than OBX. If you book this entire deck it will be closed off and private.
Food/Bev Minimum: Mon-Thurs $2,000.00 | Fri-Sun: $2,500.00
The Marlin Club
This is the newest addition to our establishment. Marlin has its own open kitchen for your viewing pleasure. This section has 115+ seats and can serve a cocktail party of 200+.
Food/Bev Minimum: Mon-Thurs $4,000.00 | Fri-Sat $6,000.00
Additionally, we do have spaces available that are not generally used to “rent out” privately. Please feel free to discuss these options with your party coordinator!
